The Mint Sydney Wedding / Silvia and Mike
Silvia and Mike tied the knot at the historic Mint in Sydney’s CBD in January this year. Family, friends, and their shared culture were close to heir heart, so their day was a great celebration of those parts of their lives.
The day started with a tea ceremony at Silvia’s. The grooms party brought their A-game to the ‘door games’, so much good fun.
When we arrived at the Sydney Mint, I was blown away by the architecture and interior spaces within it. The high ceilings, the lights, the ridiculously beautiful watercolour painted walls of Silvia’s room, the moody deep rust tones in the boys room, the rich heritage. To turn the light on in the boys room, you had to pull down on a long string that hung from the ceiling (right?!).
The atrium of the Mint made for a beautiful ceremony location. Jenny Jim officiated the sweetest ceremony in front of Silvia and Mike’s closest family and friends.
It was a hot day in January, but by the late afternoon, the weather cooled and it was such a pleasure walking around Hyde Park for bridal portraits.
This is how the day unfolded….
A little bit about The Mint, with a little help from our friend ChatGPT
Located on Macquarie Street, The Mint is a slice of Sydney's rich history. It is the oldest surviving building in the Sydney CBD. Originally constructed between 1811 and 1816 as part of Governor Macquarie's "Rum Hospital"—so named because it was funded through a monopoly on rum imports—the building later became the first branch of the Royal Mint outside London in 1855, producing Australia's first gold sovereigns. Choosing The Mint means becoming part of a narrative that spans over two centuries. From its origins as a convict hospital to its transformation into a mint and now a cherished event space, every corner of The Mint whispers tales of Sydney's past
The Raised Lawn, within the Sandstone courtyard, with its lush greenery and the iconic Crepe Myrtle tree, offers a picturesque setting for your ceremony. In case of unexpected weather, the stylish glass bar adjacent to the courtyard provides a seamless indoor alternative .
For wedding receptions, the Gold Melting Room—a nod to the building's minting past—features a contemporary design with a curved wooden ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows that open to the courtyard. It's an ideal space for an elegant sit-down dinner or a lively cocktail party, accommodating up to 100 seated guests or 250 standing.
