Kristy and Justin’s wedding at Jaspers in Berry was full of fun, creative energy, spontaneous harmonizing (when 90% of the guest list is in musical theatre, you know it’s going to be good right?), and, of course love.

We visited Vietnam a month ago, it was the start of August and we were glad to be leaving behind the freezing mornings and short days of Canberra in winter. Our 2 week itinerary - Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Saigon / Ho Chi Minh.

It was 2005, and Sarah and Victor met as student and teacher of a dance school in Canberra (I’m feeling Dirty Dancing vibes). Fast forward 20ish years and these two have built a life together, a cosy home, and had 3 beautiful children. They were practically married.

Bec and Adrian tied the knot at one of the most romantic spots for small weddings in Canberra- the atrium at Midnight Hotel. It’s a lush haven full of ferns that feels like a secret garden, a world from the surrounding buildings. It was the perfect micro wedding ceremony venue for this laid back couple (and their 20 guests), who wanted something a little bit unique, but also laid back- just like them.

On the most gorgeous sunny day, Peggy and Will tied the knot on the lawn at Athol Hall, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Ivy Floral and Co. did an incredible job of creating a lush floral arch that framed the couple, and celebrant Jenny Jim officiated the proceedings.

There’s a lot to be said for having a small wedding. You get to truly connect with everyone present, much more so than a wedding of 100+ guests. The overall cost is lower, so you can afford to splurge on the details of the weddings that really make your heart sing. You have the opportunity to make it more ‘bespoke’ for you.

Last year I had been lucky to be part of several very fun ‘surprise weddings’- Alannah and Luke’s intimate wedding at The Social Club was one of them.

The model, Damien Neron, is a florist who worked in Paris for a number of years and also recently in Canberra. I decided to shoot this after hearing the joys and sorrows of floristry in recent years.
